Abstract

Two progeny tests of half-sib families of Pinus caribaea var. caribaea stemming from a clonal orchard of La Sabana, Oax., established on a randomized complete block design experiment, were evaluated from 1989 to 1991. The objective was to estimate the variation and the grade of genetic control on the diameter and the height of two years-old plants. The estimated heritabilities had proximate values to unit, where the level of family averages was higher than those of the individuals. Also, the genetic correlations were near the unit, with the possibility of utilization of the indirect selection to obtain higher gains. Phenotypic correlations had very variable values, from 0.22 to 0.85. Three of the common families in both tests, showed a different response in each location, due perhaps to the genotype-environment interaction.
