Features of the Aloe vera industry in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. In 1960 the Rio Grande Valley Region in Texas (RGVT) was considered the leading agricultural area in the United States and the world in the production and transformation of Aloe Vera leaf. Although at the present time this region is not important in aloe production, manufacturing and processors companies located in this region are still considered world-wide leaders in the aloe industry. The objective of the study was to describe and to analyze the main economic and administrative characteristics that typify the aloe Vera industry. From documentary information, interviews and observation, seven primary production companies were characterized. All seven companies are vertically organized in raw materials production of aloe and other phases of the value chain to their organizational structure, using the functional and operational approach. The main relations between variables were identified by correlational analysis. The results indicate a significant association between the variables: number of products/integration level, number of products/installed capacity, integration level/number of employees, and installed capacity/number of employees. However there is no evidence of a causal relation between antiquity in the industry and development level achieved.
