Control químico y biológico del lirio acuático Eichhornia crassipes Eichhornia crassipes (MART.) solms en el río Mololoa, Nay., México

Abstract

Chemical and Biological Control of Water Hyacinth Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms in the Mololoa river, Nay., Mexico. Insects of the genus Neochhetina spp. Were observed attacking water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes), fluctuation of population was evaluated in order to know their behavior and establish strategies for controlling this aquatic weed. A bigger number of insects was found when the plants of water hyacinth were bigger and when the number of bites in the leaves was also the greatest. The sampling was performed from May 1996 to April 1997. An experimental work for chemical control on the water hyacinth with was carried out with two herbicides and a witness. It was found that the herbicide 2,4-D was the best for water hyacinth; herbicide Glifosato did not show the same control power than herbicide 2,4-D.
